As a cohort, we decided it would be fun to run a mini side project every week. This would give us the opportunity to respond to a brief in a short period of time – all good practice for the future.
This was the first time we have done this. The theme set was ‘Tomato Soup’. I did not want to go down the Andy Warhol route, so decided to stage a brand war between a supermarket own brand and a branded version. I chose to shoot the brand war against a cardboard back drop and enrolled my husband in the positing of the ketchup to create a ‘blood pool’ and ‘cast off’.
I edited the version shown in figure 1 to emphasis the red colour. I added in a baseball bat and hand from one of my previous shoots and added a cap for good measure. This was great fun and a welcome release from the pressures of the course. I really enjoyed making this image.

The second image I produced was to make the ordinary tin into something extraordinary. So, the supermarket own brand tin became a fairy in keeping with the theme of some of my shoots. I added a woodland background, wings and antlers. I inverted the colour of the can to give it an otherworldly feel.

Both images had text placed on them as they are designed around being advertisements for the products.
This exercise was great fun and I really enjoy creating something completely different and a bit of fun. Ready for the next challenge now…
